Ces derniers se trouvent à gauche de la page d’accueil. Il suffit de cliquer une fois pour les activer.<br /> La réception des participants aura lieu le <strong>lundi 15 juillet de 14 heures à 18 heures</strong> au plus tard. Le retrait des clés se fera à la résidence de l’Ermitage, boulevard Gambetta.<br /> Les cours débuteront le <strong>mardi 16 juillet à 9 heures à l’IUT de Digne (y compris le samedi matin) et s’achèveront le jeudi 26 juillet.</strong> Le départ aura lieu le lendemain?<br /> Comme vous le constaterez, les formules ont été légèrement modifiées afin de donner à la formule B un statut amélioré. Pour ceux qui, inscrits à la formule A, désireraient cumuler avec la formule B, nous demandons une participation, — dans la mesure du possible. C’est une occasion unique pour faire connaissance avec cette langue parlée par 93 millions d’individus, en Iran, en Afghanistan et au Tadjikistan. C’est une langue indo-européenne écrite avec des caractères arabes. Sa littérature est une des plus riche au monde, dans laquelle se sont exprimés des littérateurs et des poète tels Ferdowsi, Nizami, Sa'adi, Hafez, Rûmi, Rûzbehân et Ghâzali. Soyez nombreux à découvrir ce patrimoine exceptionnel.<br /> Dans les formules B, où nous proposons d'autres découvertes chaque année, vous pourrez découvrir ce que l'on sait de la langue et de la Il questionne le déplacement de manière pluridisciplinaire et chronologique en interrogeant les mouvements de différentes catégories de populations. Étudiants, coopérants français, militaires marocains, intellectuels algériens, immigré kabyle, acteurs sportifs des jeux méditerranéens, consommateurs d’offres de relaxation, curistes en thalassothérapie, touristes européens au Maroc, anciens Pieds-Noirs en visite en Algérie, anciens colons voyageant en Tunisie, convertis à l’islam en Belgique, iman égyptien immigré en Italie, chercheurs français au Maghreb… participent tous d’une mobilité généralisée. En passant du XIXe siècle au XXIe, l’étude propose une remise en perspective historique qui fait ressortir les continuités et les hiérarchies de ces mouvements. Que le tropisme des migrations soit sud-sud ou nord-sud, il existe des courants qui sont difficiles de remonter en sens inverse. Des forces économiques, sociales, ethniques, régionales, nationales poussent les passagers à agir de façon déterminée. font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif"> <br /> </span> </div> <div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">The publications of the French Institute of the Near East (IFPO), the former Institut Français de Damas (IFEAD), in particular the <a href="http://www.ifporient.org/node/74" target="_blank">Bulletin d'Etudes Orientales</a>, have always encouraged studies of the city of Damascus and more generally in the ﬁeld of medieval and Ottoman history. Well known examples are the works of Jean Sauvaget, Nikita Élisséeff and André Raymond, but many more scholars have been linked with the institute since its creation, and their publications manifest its continued interest in the medieval and early modern history of the Middle East.</span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">Although there are many publications on the history of Damascus, we feel that what is needed now are more synthetic and multidisciplinary approaches, providing thematic and diachronic analysis of the modalities of the city’s development. This thematic volume of the Bulletin d'Etudes Orientales aims to ﬁll a historiographical lacuna and provide a clear picture of the state of research on the social and urban history of Damascus from the medieval to early modern times (XIIth-XIXth century).  </span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">We expect the contributors to this volume to engage in a new research question. They may base their research either on the study of medieval and/or Ottoman texts such as chronicles, biographical dictionaries, geographical  studies,  maps and travel  accounts,  and archival  documents such as waqf, legal documents, cadastres, or on the study of material culture in the ﬁelds of archaeology, architectural studies or art history, using one or more of the following themes:</span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <h2 align="justify"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">I. The Urban fabric</span></h2> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000"> Who builds what, how and where? This theme focuses on the actors behind the urban development of Damascus. It seeks to analyse social groups and individuals who contributed to urban development, ranging from public infrastructure to private houses. This includes a deﬁnition of the motors behind the urban development itself, and of its nature as well as of the ﬁnancial, social and technical means of its establishment. We are thus equally interested in the architectural patrons and the relation they may have had to their foundations as we are in the general building activity of the elites of the city.</span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">As Damascus remains under  the more or  less explicit  control  of an external  power throughout the period in question, it   is relevant in  this context to discuss the role of Cairo and Istanbul in the development of the city. Contributions can thus also deal with the inﬂuence of the centrally dictated policies on major urban transformations in Damascus, such as the establishment of public infrastructure; modiﬁcations of the road system, displacement of markets, or the construction or maintenance of water works. </span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">Aiming at a global vision of the city, material aspects of architecture, such as building techniques and other aspects of material culture are also of great importance. These topics can be dealt with through studies of architectural aspects of the urban context and on the analyses of layout and decoration of buildings. This may concern the aesthetic choices in a building, choices that might display the will of a patron or of the workmen or depend on other modalities, such as technical or economic considerations. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the successive development of the Damascene architecture as well as the inﬂuences and elements that shaped it progressively. </span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <h2 align="justify"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">II. Groups and individuals in the urban space</span></h2> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">The urban space is a product of human society and a setting for speciﬁc social practice. Under this theme we would like to promote contributions considering  issues of urban demography, social and ethnic groups, or professions or guilds. Damascus served as a magnet for migrations and was thus a place where many different ethnic and religious groups were established, integrated into local society and contributed to the development of the city.</span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">Under this theme, authors can suggest studies on the residential strategies of individuals or groups, on the   presence   of   one   or   several   socio-ethnic   groups  in the city and on the  modalities of their establishment. We would also like to encourage analysis of one or several socio-functional groups that could provide us with a clearer picture of the presence of  professions in  the city or on the way excluded groups or those on the fringes of society such as, thiefs, prostitutes, the poor, slaves etc. used and invested in the urban space. Under this theme, we encourage studies both on a micro and macro level, i.e. the analysis of a particular neighbourhood or a street is just as signiﬁcant as those considering the more general aspects of residential strategies of urban elites or ordinary people. </span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <h2 align="justify"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000"> III. The city in its context.</span></h2> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">We would like to put Damascus in its historical context, considering it as a part of a greater whole, a space that has different meanings and boundaries for different groups of people or contexts. Some examples of these are: the hinterland, the neighbouring provinces, the capital of the period (Cairo or Istanbul), commercial, religious, social, ethnic, intellectual and political networks. </span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">Under this theme contributors may for instance wish to consider the relations between the urban and rural populations, emphasising the social and political consequences of the extension of the city into its hinterland and beyond. This might include studies of property status and the usufruct of land, water or harvest and raw materials through time, and the analysis of the iqṭā' and timar systems. Other facets of this theme could be the supply and exchange of agricultural products, raw materials and  manufactured  products through trade and ownership, as  well as the different methods of circulation, communication and travel, migration, pilgrimage, rural exodus/urbanisation and interregional trade. </span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">Finally, studies considering the city seen by western and oriental travellers are also welcome. </span> </p> <div align="justify"> </div> <h2 align="justify"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">Cartography :</span></h2> <div align="justify"> </div> <p align="justify"> <span style="font-size: small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #000000">Cartography and iconography will be given special attention in this volume and we aim at a graphic uniformity in the presentation of maps and drawings to ensure better readability.
